The project LIFE+ NATURE LIFE07 NAT/GR/000286 participates in the first European Natura 2000 Award

ReforestationMos2_R.jpgThe project LIFE+ NATURE LIFE07 NAT/GR/000286 entitled “Restoration of Pinus nigra forests on Mount Parnonas (GR2520006) through a structured approach” is implemented by the Goulandris Natural History Museum/Greek Biotope - Wetland Centre in cooperation with the Decentralised Administration of the Peloponnese - Western Greece & Ionian Sea, the Decentralised Administration of Macedonia - Thrace and the Management Body of Mount Parnon and Moustos Wetland, is going to participate in the first European Natura 2000 Award.

img-forests.jpgIn this pilot year of the award, which was established to recognize and promote excellence in nature conservation, the European Committee has received 163 applications from all over Europe, which is very encouraging and shows the high level of interest in the initiative. Despite the very high level of competition the project LIFE+ NATURE LIFE07 NAT/GR/000286 entitled “Restoration of Pinus nigra forests on Mount Parnonas (GR2520006) through a structured approach” has made it to the list of 22 finalists!

Representatives of two beneficiaries of the project are going to attend the Natura 2000 Award Ceremony on the 21st of May 2014 in Brussels, when there will be the announcement of the five winners. Particularly noteworthy is that the Commissioner for the Environment Janez Potočnik, the Director General for Environment Karl Falkenberg, the Members of the Jury, and other high-level representatives will attend the Ceremony.
