logoGiortiDasous.pngΤhe Cultural Association of Kastanitsa organised the fourth annual event "FOREST FEST 2011" in the village of Kastanitsa. The Management Body of Mount Parnon & Moustos Wetland took the opportunity to actively participate in a series of events designed to inform and to raise public awareness on issues of environmental protection, especially among young students, citizens and state agencies.

The events will take place in the period 7/30 - 8/13. Management Body of Mount Parnon & Moustos Wetland participates according to the following program:

July 31st 2011, 19:00 pm: Workshop on "Protection of Mount Parnonas - voluntary self-organization - coordination". The coordinator of the Management Body will inform participants on all matters of competence of the Management Body Mount Parnonas Wetland Moustos to better coordinate and improve the efficiency of cooperation between state agencies and volunteer groups, on fire prevention and environmental protection.

August 7th 2011, 11:00 am: "Environmental Education for Children". Our little friends will discuss the values, functions and threats of forests in an original and entertaining way. With the help of environmental games for the protected area of Mount Parnon & Moustos Wetland they will conquer the method of tree chronology and tree height estimation, they will play ''the game of nature'' and will enjoy themselves in participating in sack races.

August 9th 2011, 19:00 pm: Presentation of Life + project “Restoration of Pinus nigra forests on Mount Parnonas (GR2520006) through a structured approach” in the Cultural Center of Kastanitsa. The LIFE+ project “Restoration of Pinus nigra forests on Mount Parnonas (GR2520006) through a structured approach” is being implemented by the Greek Biotope-Wetland Center in collaboration with the Decentralized Administration of Peloponnese and Western Greece and Ionian, the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia - Thrace and the Management Body Mount Parnon & Moustos Wetland. This project started in 2009 to address the impacts of extensive forest fires of 2007 and to improve planning for the restoration of forests of black pine of Mount Parnon.

The Management Body of Mount Parnon & Moustos Wetland plans to continue similar actions, aiming to inform young students and citizens on the protection of the sensitive natural and cultural environment and to raise public awareness for the protection of Mount Parnon and Moustos Wetland.
